I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!! Some of the reviews I’ve seen or read recently make it seem like this movie isn’t of substance. That is simply not the case!! It doesn’t pick on white people or any of that nonsense that I’ve read here. It deals with the real issues and feelings of today’s single, educated, and accomplished black woman who just wants to be respected in the work place and loved, cherished and valued at home; truly and honestly loved for who SHE is!

This movie deals honestly and delicately with the REAL emotions a black woman may feel when she finds herself falling in love with a man that doesn’t look like her or comes from a socioeconomic background different from hers. I appreciated the fact that this movie didn’t gloss over those issues because in real interracial relationships, those issues are confronted head on, not ignored as if they don’t exist. THIS MOVIE IS A WINNER & WORTH CHECKING OUT!!!

Just because a black person is well educated and highly accomplished does NOT mean that she hasn’t experienced racism or doesn’t deal with it on a daily basis!! Being black doesn’t suddenly disappear when one acquires success. I think this movie did a wonderful job at revealing this reality that many of us already know about all too well. I could completely relate to the main character’s frustration with this.

“Something New” is a romantic comedy with a social agenda. Kenya McQueen (Sanaa Lathan) is a workaholic investment banker with no time or patience for men. She yearns for companionship but has impossibly high -and very specific- standards. Urged by her friends to loosen up and “let go” of her concept of the ideal man, she agrees to a blind date arranged by a co-worker. If only the date were colorblind too. Kenya is set up with Brian Kelley (Simon Baker), a handsome, easy-going landscape architect who abandoned his corporate career to go into business doing what he loves. But Brian is white. Kenya is black. And white men are at the top of the list of things Kenya doesn’t do. But she does need a landscaper for her new backyard. So she hires Brian, and their mutual attraction blossoms -to the variable horror and curiosity of Kenya’s friends and family.

The moral of the story is that social conventions don’t always know best in matters of the heart: You might find the companion you seek if you are open to other possibilities. Kenya and Brian’s story is predictable, but Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker are attractive and interesting to watch. The greater social insight of the film may be in Kenya’s coterie of friends, all upper-middle class professional black women who fret over the dearth of suitable black men available to them. Their predicament and their views of men and race are interesting from the perspective of an outsider. White members of the audience will doubt Brian’s willingness to tolerate the enormous chip Kenya carries on her shoulder. And he is more tolerant and self-sacrificing in the face of Kenya’s self-absorption than is believable. But romantic comedies require some suspension of disbelief, and “Something New” is entertaining.

The DVD (Universal 2006): In “The Do’s and Don’ts of Dating” (5 min), 8 members of the cast give their do’s and don’ts of dating and relationships. “The Making of Something New” (11 min) features interviews with director Sanaa Hamri, writer Kriss Turner, producer Stephanie Allain, and the cast in which they talk about making the film and discuss the film’s themes. Subtitles are available for the film in English SDH, Spanish, and French.

That’s a LOT of Munsters!

Great Value!

This is a hard product to review. I love “The Munsters” and cannot say anything bad about the episodes. I have to give this 5-stars for the content: Everything that was on the previous releases – plus the fact that Universal FINALLY put all of this on single-sided discs. But, I have to take points off for Universal NOT fixing problems with the original releases: The discs are exactly the same – menus, content, and “problems”!

The first season episodes should have been spread out more – disc 6 (originally disc 3B) only has four episodes – the others have six or seven. The colorized version of “Family Portrait” has been added to disc 2 (originally 1B). Be warned! It is not perfect. I originally watched this episode on my TV in the living room and it was awful. It looked as if it was one of the first colorization tests. But I re-watched on my bedroom TV and it was a lot better. I guess it all depends on your TV’s settings. The Munsters and their house are actually done well and look as if filmed in color. The problem is with the “human” characters. Their skin tones are off and it looks fakey. If only other studios could do the excellent and realistic job that Paramount did with the “Lucy Goes to Scotland” episode of “I Love Lucy.” But it is a pretty good attempt at colorization. It was a treat to see what it might have looked like if filmed in color, but I prefer the look and feel of the B&W version.

The second season episodes still have the crappy Universal logo and music before EVERY episode. And there is no way to skip it. I was praying that the studio would remove this (also, it isn’t seen with the first season episodes).

So, 5-stars for putting everything in one package, the episodes themselves, single-sided discs, and the bonus features (including the colorized episode). But I drop the rating to 3-stars for not spreading out the first season episodes, the low sound on a couple of first season episodes that should have been corrected, and the Universal logo w/music before every single second season episode with no way to bypass it. Universal made a good attempt but fumbled by not making all the necessary corrections. But I am still VERY happy to have one of my favorite shows on DVD.

Oh, the single box contains two digi-packs. The first one is Season One with six discs. The second one is Season Two with six discs (four are the episodes, one is the bonus biographies, one is the two movies). Each has the disc breakdowns and the discs overlap – two per page.

Now you make the decision on whether to buy this. If you already own the Season Sets and don’t mind the 2-sided discs and have the separate two-movie disc, then I wouldn’t buy this. There is nothing different except the colorized episode – which is now available separately. If you would prefer single-sided discs and want everything (which includes the two-movie disc) in one package, than this product is for you. I hope this helps you decide.

At this point, I’m sure pretty much everyone has seen the movie so I won’t go into the details about why this movie is so fun and rewatchable. Overall, this is a good blu-ray release as far as content. The blu-ray is bare bones, however this release includes the DVD that has all of the extras from the last DVD release(yes, it has Kevin Smith’s and Scott Mosier’s commentary track).

Now for the bad. The packaging is awful. The case looks like a normal blu-ray blue plastic case until you remove one of the discs and reveal the spaces or holes in the plastic. And the best part? The holes are right where the disc is resting in the case, which means if any blunt or sharp object hits the case, it will go through the thin plasic sleeve cover and the paper cover and damage the disc. I imagine amazon will have a lot of damage returns with this one since they are sending it in a bubble lined envelope (it really needs to be shipped in a box). My blu-ray cover was punctured in the front and the DVD was slightly damaged by a very visible scratch. Fortunately the disc still played just fine, but now the Road House front cover has a small hole right on Patrick Swayze’s neck line. Lovely. I won’t be returning it since the same thing will probably happen again (possibly worse) and both of the discs play anyway.

The eco-friendly packaging was a HORRIBLE idea. Since I like my discs to have some kind of protection, I’ll be putting the discs in a different case and tossing this eco-friendly junk. They might as well send these in a thin paper sleeve. It’s ridiculous.

Awesome kick butt movie with Mr. Swayzee in fine form as the ass kicking bouncer. This is a good date movie for dicks n chicks as it has something for everyone LOVE IT 10 toes up

I remember when I was a kid, I probably rented this movie so many times that I could have bought several copies. For some reason, that thought never occurred to me. But I never regretted shelling out $1.50 to be able to have that movie in my possession for a whole day.

Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson return in their roles as three bachelors raising a five-year old girl along with her mother, played by Nancy Travis. This time around, we see little Mary struggling with the fact that her family is different from those of her peers, and then her mother, Sylvia, announcing her engagement to an Englishman who is going to move the three of them to England. Then Peter (Tom Selleck’s character) realizes that he is in love with Sylvia so he rushes to England to stop the wedding.

This movie definitely has a different feel than the first movie. The latter was more of a comedy of three confirmed bachelors struggling to take care of a six-month old baby. “Little Lady” is more of a sentimental, romantic movie. For whatever reason, I found the second movie to be more enjoyable. This is a great movie to watch when you are in the mood for a light movie that is an oldie but a goody.

Great sequel but I’m disappointed that it’s in pan & scan. What really baffles me is that “Three Men and a Baby” is released in widescreen.

The animation here is first rate and the entire thing is shot like a live-action film with some amazing long shots, immense theatrical panning and even at one point, during Quasimodo’s song “Out There” a realistic camera flare (I did a double acquire the first time I saw it!) Hunchback is filled with all sorts of huge “tricks” like this. Lighting effects here are nothing short of stunning – often subtle they sometimes change in an instant dramatically altering the mood of the section. Frodo’s demonic song “Hellfire” is perhaps one the most harmful and plain moments to emerge from Disney and the animators let loose.

The prologue to the movie alone is a minor masterpiece and, like Beauty and the Beast, marvelously prepares us for the whirlwind of a yarn to purchase set.

The complaints about the singing and dancing gargoyles Victor, Hugo and Laverne, are simply wrongheaded. I read the Hugo classic too, and know they’re not in there. What the complainants fail to realize is these gargoyles live only in Quasimodo’s imagination. He invented these companions to ease an otherwise tortured, lonely, friendless life. The culmination of all of this becomes distinct in the spectacular song “A guy like you” which finishes with pigeons flying and hearts and banners and ribbons and Quasimodo being noted and then BAM immediately upon the conclusion of the final notes, the room becomes the same gloomy, dank, splintering tower filled with relics, junk and heartbreak. It’s one of the movie’s most shattering effects.

While deserved praise goes to the animators and crew, the declare talent here is, in my idea, Disney’s very best. Tom Hulce goes to the very soul of Quasimodo and gives a performance that is as poignant and shattering as anything he has done (Hulce also happened to be the best Hamlet I’ve ever seen.) Distinct lines (”I am a monster, you know”) will ring in my ear forever. Hulce has a pretty allege and renders “Out there” with such abandon and vigor it makes my hair stand on raze. In the smooth “Heaven’s light” (which sequences into a ravishing shot of the bells frantically ringing the opening theme), Hulce brings a fragility to such lines as “no face as ghastly as my face, was ever meant for Heaven’s light” that only a heart of stone would not be moved. Switching from pathos to rage, Hulce lets us feel the hidden rage and distress that this character also possesses. It is a truly mighty performance.

Demi Moore, Kevin Kline, Tony Jay, Paul Kandel – and the rest of the cast all sound at the top of their game creating amazing and smart characters.

Alan Menkin and Stephen Schwartz collect to the heart of the matter with fetch and songs – a sound – that are as integral a allotment of the telling of this account as the animation and voices.

Hunchback is a miracle of a movie!

It would not be hard to study a more difficult memoir line for Disney to adapt on hide than Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, but that doesn’t mean it was a waddle in the park either. Not only is there the conundrum of how to obtain Quasimodo just to his character and at the same time not so frightful in appearance as to frighten off youngsters, but how will Victor Hugo’s murky commentary of 15th Century Parisian life, capital punishment and religious bigotry be accommodated? What of Claude Frollo’s lascivious desires for Esmerelda and wanton acts upon Quasimodo and gypsies? And that ending…a bit of a downer don’t you reflect? Well, own it or not, Disney stays moral to each of these facets of the unique…with the exception of the tragic conclusion, of course.

Talking gargoyles aside, the film really does not do enough to accommodate young viewers (and perhaps it was a mistake to market this as a kid’s movie, but you got to sell those Burger King toys somehow!) . The villain (Frollo) is among the most putrid characters ever portrayed in a Disney movie, and unlike Jafar (”Alladin”) or Hades (”Hercules”), there is nothing funny about him. On the other hand, the animators went a minute overboard with Quasimodo, who kinda looks like a red-headed Chris Farley. And Phoebus has the personality of Al Gore…if he were any more wooden you’d have to check him for termites. Also, some very though-provoking characters from the book are regrettably absent. Where’s Pierre Gringoire, Jehan Frollo, and Sister Gudule? Composed, the animation is breathtaking, and the finale is nearly flawless…preferred to new version if you’re a sentimental fan of cheerful endings.

The movie contains a few hilarious subliminal references, as when Quasimodo (Tom Hulce) is dressed up briefly as Amadeus. The music is astounding and supports the film’s most compelling scenes: Esmerelda singing “God Encourage The Outcasts” while taking sanctuary in the cathedral, the counterpoint of Quasimodo’s “Heaven’s Light” to Frollo’s “Hell Fire,” and the heart-pumping catch unhurried the finale. Probably would have been given a PG rating if not for Eisner’s influence over MPAA.

Stephen King ( whom wrote the screenplay for this movie) brings you three shocking tales of panic done in the “Creepshow” style as told from the eyes of a traveling stray cat. The first fable ” Quitters Inc.” is about a family man ( James Woods) who impartial can’t end smoking as he signs up for a program called “Quitters Inc.” which secretly monitors his smoking habit, the next narrative is in Atlantic city called ” The Ledge” which a tennis player makes a bet with a boss to trot a hotel ledge. Then finally our title cat in ” The General” must protect a young girl ( Drew Barrymore) from an faulty goblin who wants her soul.

Entertaining and well-made collection of comic-book stories with Hitchcock-esque and Twilight Zone-esque tones to them. Capable acting and some proper special effects for it’s time especially the goblin compose this worth watching.

Highly recommended if you indulge in the works of Stephen King, Creepshow 1 & 2 and Tales from The Darkside: The Movie.

I watched Cat’s Recognize last night, for the first time in at least 15 years, and I’m tickled to say it Unexcited doesn’t disappoint. Not as dated as you’d examine after all this time either. Cat’s Notice isn’t scary, though has some suspenseful moments. I don’t consider anyone would be tremulous except runt children (in particular for the last yarn) but they shouldn’t be watching this sort of thing anyway.

As a smoker, the Quitters Inc. segment made me wish they had some sort of smoking conclude program such as. And for the gambling segment, I about died when he kicks the pigeon! Hilarious! The final chronicle is also quite fun with the exiguous monster. If you’re looking for something recent to hold you entertained, give this movie a try. It’s a classic!

I cautiously first went to view “My Cousin Vinny” when Marisa Tomei won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, because–unlike many people–I don’t like Joe Pesci. I aloof don’t like Joe Pesci, BUT the role of Vincent LaGuardia Gambini in “My Cousin Vinny” is perfect for him, and his performance is stellar. For me Joe Pesci is Vincent Gambini and Vincent Gambini is Joe Pesci. And, it was my notion when I first saw “My Cousin Vinny,” as it is now after watching the DVD I unprejudiced got, that Marisa Tomei more than deserved the Oscar. It is my notion, moreover, that many times award winning performances are discredited by viewers because the actor is performing so well that it appears they are not acting at all. (Please designate that I count myself among those who witness the Oscars as politically driven; so, when I agree with them–which is seldom–I am truly standing up to be counted) .

The product description does a pleasing job of describing the sage outline; although it hardly makes “My Cousin Vinny” sound nearly as comic as it is. But the movie is about more than two kids from the city mistakenly arrested for execute in (the implicitly implied “redneck”) Alabama. The film is a light-hearted see of culture clashes, where all characters have stereotypical traits and stereotype the other characters themselves. The movie is also about assumptions–along with the inherent peril of such–and how the “meaning” of these assumptions vary with regards to experience and socialization. “My Cousin Vinny” also examines gender roles–and it is here that Tomei shines–and education/science versus experience and current knowledge. But, most importantly, “My Cousin Vinny” demonstrates the importance of “doing the just thing,” regardless of the consequences (and in some cases the legality of the action) . Pesci’s character finally “gets it,” and is able to pick up his way; but only through the assistance of Tomei’s character and the trust of Billy Gambini (inconsistently performed by Ralph Macchio) .

As for the other reviewer’s triad about the language in this DVD version of the movie, as compared to the bleeped television version, I have these comments: 1) the movie is rated “R,” which should have informed you about the probability of profanity; 2) while it may seem like there is a lot of profanity in the movie, it is completely applicable to the plot these characters would actually speak–and I suspect that there is actually less profanity than it sounds like; 3) when “My Cousin Vinny” was made (1992), most movies were animated towards increased employ of profanity–especially “R” rated movies; and 4) is overt profanity that considerable worse than suggested or ribald “comedy? ” Moreover, honest how does the sudden inclusion of (generally appropriately former) profanity into any dialog–films or otherwise–change the humor or effect it no longer humorous? In fact, I personally hear fair as worthy, if not more, profanity conventional by children, teenagers, adults, and seniors at the store than in the movie; which I have is heinous misuse of profanity, but is the draw of life today. For me, and I am certain many others, a tremendous humorous movie, is a sizable droll movie in spite of the language. Remember, there was a day when movies couldn’t even rely on language to be silly.

Now for the mystery I am having danger understanding: Why is this version of the DVD/VHS not being lumped together with the other versions with regards to reviews? To date (12 June 2008), there is only one review listed for this version, while there are 129 reviews for the other version currently available. This is so uncharacteristic of Amazon! And, in reach ultimate irony, it appears that there is no dissimilarity between this version and the other “lower priced” (I got mine when it was sale) version, other than the fact that this version has a gold cardboard slipcase (the box inside is exactly like the other one) and the listing has the inappropriate actors!

When Unusual Yorkers Billy Gambini (played by Ralph Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield) are wrongly accused of slay in Beechum County, Alabama, they call in a lawyer they know – Vincent “Vinny” Gambini (Joe Pesci) . He knows how to argue and how to come by to the truth, but as a very-newly minted lawyer, does he really know what he’s doing? Everyone seems to prefer an instant abominate to this smooth-talking city-slicker, but Vinny isn’t going to let anything reach in the procedure of his proving the boys’ innocence.

Well, I must admit that this is one of my all-time well-liked movies. On the down-side, and it is a immense down-side, the swearing in this movie is strong and almost non-stop, with the f-bomb being thrown around like confetti on Novel Year’s Eve. But, in spite of this, the movie is so well-made that you can’t assist but like it.

Joe Pesci is vast, of course, but the rest of the cast carries their absorb weight, making ever scene in the movie really work. Marisa Tomei does an suitable job as Vinny’s fiancé Ms. Mona Lisa Vito, and Fred Gwynne brings in a stellar performance in his last major role – Reflect Chamberlain Haller. Plus, I found the storyline to be non-stop comical, and the mystery to be quite engaging.

Yep, this is one of my common movies, and I mediate it will be adored by audiences for many years to reach. With the movie’s language it’s not for children, but it definitely is for everyone else!

I’d have to really go 4.5 but 4 is unfair. Fletch is abet and it’s stout. Leonard Maltin should relax a miniature bit and lighten up. Starting off in a mafia-controlled seafood restaurant, we gather Fletch in crawl and the object of desire of a near-sighted Greek man.

Inheriting a Louisiana mansion, Fletch flies down next to an bad but suited nasal-surgery candidate. Yet another classic dream sequence, and this one is not to be missed, as “Ancient White Joe”, Fletch fantasizes that his ex-wife’s lawyer, his boss and the cute gal from the office all drop at his feet. The imagery from Disney’s “Song of the South” is pure genius and you might ogle “Ted Underhill” making a cameo appearance at the ruin of the dream sequence (there must have been 300 extras here or a *whole* lot of CGI … check out the *very end* of the dream sequence closely) .

I worship it. Again glorious women enthusiastic here including the comely Julianne Phillips. This is Cleavon Little’s best work since “Blazing Saddles” (though he was immense in the early 1970’s “Vanishing Point”) . Randall “Tex” Cobb never fails to amuse especially with his “Ben Dover” appearance as a **faux** zooerastia-obsessed transvestite necrophiliac (accumulate a dictionary!) . Now this movie doesn’t bash Christians, in fact there are some accurately quoted Bible verses. But it does lampoon some who misuse Christianity for money solely.

Unsafe African Flesh-Eating Termites, not only do they cause the walls in Miss Ross’s house to be deplaning to an alarming degree but they jump into the ear of the sheriff’s deputy. Fortunately, Fletch gives him sound advice on how to derive those termites out. Too laughable! Besides, how many movies have the terms “carpetbagger”, “toxic kill” and “The (Rolling) Stones” in them? …

I caught this movie by chance on USA Family one weekend night, and I’m gratified that I stayed tuned! Chevy Travel plays a reporter working out of L.A. that inherits a section of valid estate in the South and soon finds himself being shot at and in the middle of hilarious, wild antics. Sprint dresses up as many different inconspicuous characters to obtain the mysterious murderer that wants his property and him expressionless. Although one will peruse that the critics here have bashed the script for its lack of stability and substance, but this older comedy truly fulfills its mission to hold you laughing.

Mr. Holland is a believable person. The viewer is free to space him into society with the rest of the world and to drag in his shoes for a spell. A edifying job from the entire cast of characters, the scoot is emotionally rewarding.
